Performing the pose:  

 

To begin, lye on your back with your arms next to your body and have your legs just a few inches apart before sliding your hands under your thighs, just below your bottom. Make sure your elbows are slightly bent and next to your torso.

Use your arms to lift up your chest by pushing into your elbows and arching your spine so that you are balanced on the crown of your head. However, don’t use your head or neck to support your body. You should use your arms, torso and legs to allow you to lift your chest up toward the sky. Avoid putting any weight on to your head at all.

Breathe in slowly and hold your breath in this posture for about 8 seconds before relaxing again.

To release out of this position, remove all your weight slowly without using your head and lower the back of your head gently. This should be followed by your neck and then your spine so that you are lying on the floor again. Finally, bring your hands out from under your thighs and back to beside your body.

Warning: Don’t do this pose if you have had a recent injury to your arm, neck, shoulder, or back.
